General Move-in Information for Cerro Vista Apartments for Fall 2008

For students who will be living in the Cerro Vista Apartments:

  • Housing assignments are posted at the Housing website on Wednesday, August 20 (re-access your housing application through the Cal Poly portal).
  • The apartment room assignment information will include:
    • Assigned building name, section letter (A-F), apartment number, and bedroom letter (A-D)
    • Apartment phone number (one per apartment)
    • Roommates' names, home towns, and phone numbers (unless roommate requested privacy)
    • Apartment check-in information
    • Parking directions for move-in day

Required Emergency Contact and Medical Information:

The following information is required of all students, who will be living in on-campus housing, and must be submitted before checking into their apartment rooms. This information can be submitted on-line through the Housing Application System.

  • Emergency contact name
  • Address of contact person
  • At least one emergency contact phone number
  • Health Insurance Company
  • Medical/allergy conditions (if any)
  • Medications (if any)

Move-in Weekend for Fall 2008

· Freshmen and Transfer Students can be begin moving in on Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14, (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM) and any day thereafter (from 12:00 to 6:00 PM). Students are encouraged to move in during the week of September 15 - 19 when there are smaller crowds and less parking congestion.

· Returning/Continuing Students can be begin moving in on Sunday, September 14, (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM) and any day thereafter (from 12:00 to 6:00 PM). Students are encouraged to move in during the week of September 15 - 19 when there are smaller crowds and less parking congestion.

Helpful Hint . . .

  • The apartments are located on a steep hillside, therefore on move-in day you will need to bring a "hand truck" or dolly, and bungee cords to secure boxes to dolly to assist in moving your belongings from your car to your room.
  • Please come prepared for stairs (sensible shoes, boxes that can be carried,etc.).
  • Due to space constraints in the apartments, it is recommended that students not bring additional personal furniture such as couches/sofas, etc.

Each apartment is furnished with:

  • bed and mattress, (extra long twin 80 ½ L x 34 1/4”W x 6” H)
  • dresser (two 2-drawer stackable dressers each measuring approx.
    32”W x 20”H x 25 1/2” D)
  • wardrobe (approx. 36”W x 75.25”H x 24”D)
  • waste basket

You will need to bring:

  • TV/Stereo/VCR/DVD (share with roommates). Please note: HDTV is not available on campus.
  • answering machine (voice mail is not part of analog service, so apartment mates may want to decide among themselves who will bring an answering machine)

Kitchen Area

  • dishes, pots and pans, utensils, strainer

  • pot holders, oven mitt, dishtowels, dish-drying rack
  • dishwashing liquid, gloves, sponges
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • foil, plastic wrap, plastic bags

  • one-piece popcorn popper, rice cooker, toaster oven
  • paper products, e.g., tissues, paper towels, napkins
  • staples, eg. flour, sugar, salt, pepper, baking soda

Bedroom Area

  • bed linens, including mattress pad cover, for an extra long twin bed

  • electrical surge protector power strips  (to plug in computers, radio, etc.)

Apartment Dimensions :

  • The apartments range from 939 to 1,000 square feet.
  • Each bedroom measures approximately 107 square feet and each bedroom has a window.
  • Ceiling heights: bedrooms - 9' and living room - 9'

No-Loft Policy:

Due to safety concerns, lofts, raised beds, and free-standing storage units, or bookcases, taller than 48" are NOT ALLOWED in the apartments.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE APARTMENTS:
  • Candles
  • Incense
  • Halogen lamps
  • Holiday or rope lights
  • Sterno devices
  • Lofts
  • Raised beds
  • No free-standing storage units or bookcases taller than 48"
  • Weapons (included but not limited to: air-soft guns, knives, sling shots, BB guns, pellet guns, water guns, firearms, bow and arrow, pepper spray, ammunition, or explosives of any kind)
  • Pets (Students may not bring or keep any animal in or around the apartments other than fish in an aquarium not to exceed 20 gallons per apartment.)

Laundry Facilities:

  • There are three laundry facilities located in Cerro Vista complex, each providing 9 washers and 12 dryers ($1 to wash, $.75 to dry).  A Laundry Card (debit card) is issued to each student when they check in.

Phones:

  • One analog phone provided per apartment and installed in the common living area.
  • Phone jacks will be provided in each bedroom.
  • Local calls and basic monthly service charges are included in the housing fees.

Computer Network Connectivity:

  • High-speed connection to Cal Poly data network and the Internet.
  • Computers must have a 10/100Base-T Ethernet card installed.
  • Students must bring their own "twisted pair network cable" to connect their computer to the assigned in-room data wall jack.

    To protect the on-campus computing network, residents will be required to login and go through a mandatory ResNet Pre-check procedure before gaining web access.
