Working with Learning Communities

The well-developed, academically-focused, strong learning communities associated with all of Cal Poly's on-campus housing options are what sets the Cal Poly University Housing residential life experience apart from most other housing programs across the country. The Coordinator of Student Development staff is directly responsible for program implementation in their learning community with extensive support from their Learning Community Coordinator. These learning community programs allow CSDs to develop a wide network of University contacts. CSDs are encouraged to research similar specialty programs from other campuses and to use creativity to develop these unique living environments. There are numerous learning community programs designed to promote academic success and student engagement.

Our housing facilities are:

  • Cerro Vista Apartments, 1,200 students, two CSDs, and 20 RAs
  • Fremont Hall, 275 students, and six RAs (Currently Closed)
  • Muir Hall, 275 students, and six RAs
  • Poly Canyon Village Apartments, 9 buildings housing 2,800 students, three CSDs, three Graduate Assistants, and 55 RAs
  • Santa Lucia & North Mountain Halls, 750 students, 1 Graduate Assistant, and 16 RAs
  • Sequoia Hall, 275 students, and six RAs
  • Sierra Madre Hall, 720 students, 1 Graduate Assistant, and 18 RAs
  • Tenaya Hall, 275 students, and six RAs
  • Trinity Hall, 275 students, and six RAs
  • yakʔityuityu, 1,400 students, two CSDs, 2 Graduate Assistants, and 29 RAs
  • Yosemite Hall, 650 first-year students, 1 Graduate Assistant, and 14 RAs
