yakʔitʸutʸu Green Building Features
Sustainability has been a primary objective for yakʔitʸutʸu since planning for the residential student community was still in its infancy. Both Requests for Proposals and conceptual design documents made sustainability a central requirement. The campus evaluated project proposals based, in large part, on the bidder’s efforts to minimize the environmental impact on residents and on the surrounding environment.
The design-build team began working with Cal Poly in Jan. 2015, bringing the project from concept to a community where students could thrive. Throughout design and construction, the campus worked with the design-build team to make sure that sustainability remained at the forefront of the project. The campus also consulted with the local yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini tribe — the namesake of the student community — on sustainable features and landscaping. The links below provide a guide to the sustainable features unique to each community.
