First-Year Live-On Requirement
Freshmen who live on campus have the opportunity to participate in programmatic activities that provide a strong foundation and help students succeed. At Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, all admitted, first-time freshmen will be required to live on campus for their first year to ensure everyone receives the benefit of the campus housing experience. Housing for freshmen is in traditional residence halls with double and triple rooms, as well as private bedrooms and shared bedrooms in the campus apartments. Some quad rooms are also available — though they are limited.
In order to secure housing, applicants must submit their online housing application, the Housing License Agreement, and initial housing payment.
Two-year Housing Requirement
For new, first-year undergraduate students enrolled full-time for Fall 2021, Cal Poly requires the following programs to live on campus for two years:
- College of Architecture and Environmental Design
- College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
- College of Engineering
- The Cal Poly Scholars Program
- Student-Athletes
