Steps to Secure Housing
The application opens to newly admitted students at 9 a.m., Thursday, April 9. All steps to secure housing are completed through the student’s Housing Portal on My Cal Poly. View fees here. Students should monitor official communications for application opening dates and deadlines. .
Step 1: Accept your offer of admission
Students can sign up for campus housing after accepting Cal Poly's offer of admission. It takes one to two business days after you accept your offer of admission to view the housing application. The housing application opens on Thursday, April 9.
Step 2: Complete your application or submit an exemption by July 1
In the housing application you will:
- Agree to the housing contract and designate a cosigner if you are under the age of 18.
- Request up to one roommate, for a maximum group size of two. All new students who are a member of the Corps of Cadets are placed into divisional housing assignments. You will see other students in the same divisional group in your housing portal when roommate selection/matching becomes available in July. All other students will see other traditional students in the Housing Portal with roommate selection/matching begins.
- Let us know if you prefer to live in a room that is in Queer Connections housing — which goes beyond “acceptance,” and is an environment where students who identify as Queer are fully welcomed in a supportive community. Housing expects that all residents will create an inclusive room for students regardless of identity.
- Let us know if you plan to request a disability-related accommodation from the Disability Resource Center (DRC). Contact Dr. DeAna Vides to request an accommodation in Student Services Building, Office 124, Solano Campus. Reach out to Dr. Vides at 707-654-1562 or AccessibilityDisabilityServices@csum.edu.
- Let us know if you plan to stay on campus for winter break, Dec. 19 through Jan. 24, 2027. Winter break housing is not included in your housing contract, and so an additional fee applies if you choose to stay. All verified Guardian Scholars (former foster youth and other independent youth) are entitled to housing over winter break at no additional charge.
- Apply for a housing exemption (for students who meet certain qualifying factors).
Step 3: Room Assignments
New students have the option to search for and request a roommate within your specific Corps of Cadets divisional or traditional student group. The names listed in the roommate search results are names and profiles in the same division or student group as you.
Specific room locations and assignments will be created to the Residence Life Office. New students only need to select a roommate for the housing process at Cal Poly Maritime Academy.
Step 4: Prep for fall
- View your Housing assignment and fees the first week of August
- The last day to cancel housing is July 18
- Make your first payment on Sept. 1
- Move-In for new students is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17
Cancellations
The Student Housing License Agreement is a binding legal contract for the Academic Year. A student is expected to honor the License Agreement for the duration of the agreement. It is the student’s responsibility to notify University Housing, in writing via the online Housing Cancellation form. If they plan to leave the University or vacate housing for an approved and verified reason, they will be released from their contract. All cancellation information is located here.
